OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

medal and fan please help me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

Samuel has to sell concert tickets worth at least $90. The price of a child ticket is $8, and the price of an adult ticket is $15. Let y be the number of child tickets sold and x be the number of adult tickets sold. Which of the following graphs best models this situation?

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

idk, i got it wrong before

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

Please help me @GreenCat @GracieBugg @Nnesha @xapproachesinfinity @kiamousekia @cecormier @Jaseelson

Nnesha (nnesha):

what did you get ?? show ur work plz :)

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

first translate the words into inequality

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

what does at least 90 mean?

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

so do we agree that it would be >=90

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

x is the number of adult so the total tickets sold for adult s would be 15x similarly y # of kids 8y is the total tickets sold to them so we 15x+8y>=90 yes

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

ok

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

now to find the solution for this inequality you will need to draw the line with equation 15x+8y=90

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

ok so it would be

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

well you tell me what it would be :)

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

you know how to sketch a line don't you?

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

yeah one sec i'm working it out :)

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

okay:)

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

I think it would be B

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

why?

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

you still have to test a point and where the solution are if the point we test didn't satisfy the inequality the solutions must be in the other side of that point

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

oh ok

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

don't just guess

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

work out the solution and be very sure it is the answer :)

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

you need obviously to draw your solution and forget there options you draw the line whose equation is 15x+8y=90 test a point and decide the the solution set

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

ok

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

to draw a line you only need to points

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

yes, ok

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

wait, will it be greater than?

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

didn't you pay attention to what i did i said at least means >=

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

ok sorry

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

did you draw the line yet?

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

the graph should be http://prntscr.com/6sg9bz all you need is two points to sketch it why taking too long

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

now test a point (0,0) is good

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

sorry, i'm trying to do 2 questions at once, sorry

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

keep in mind here we don't not deal with negative part of the xy plane

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

ok so now I'm just doing this one

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

ok

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

as that wouldn't make sense at all in this real life problem

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

ok

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

So it's A or B

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

yes one of them you decide after testing a point

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

ok

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

let me see you work it out :)

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

don' expect answer all the time, you need to work as well if you want to learn that is

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

so have you considered 0,0

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

yeah

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

so show the result then

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

I think it's A because

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

okay and the reason is remember math does not believe in i guess either strongly yes or no

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

ok

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

Thank you, sorry i wasn't doing a good job doing it with u because i was trying to do another one at the same time

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

hehe well that is no good my dear :) you letting me do your work! you need to focus entirely on understanding one at least before attempting anything else

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

yeah, it's just I have sooo much work to do today, I guess I'm not going to do it well if I can't focus on it XD

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

Normally I do it with whoever is helping me

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

look my point is i will give yu the answer, but what does that do to you eventually you get stuck with more problem to come and nobody is willing to do others work all the time. So instead learn it yourself here and you will never have any difficulty later :)

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

If i'm harsh then I'm sorry!

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

yup, i agree

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

u aren't harsh!

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

so back to our story when i asked you to test a point I'm basically telling pluggin the x and y of that point into our inequality and check if it works so i said 0,0 is good for our test, in fact any other point would do 15(0)+8(0)=0>=90 we ask is zero greater than 90?

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

sure it is not!

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

then the conclusion is the solution are on the other side of the line including the line itself since we greater than or "equal"

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

Do you understand!

OpenStudy (horsegirl27):

yes, sorry!!
