sorry can't help right jow
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
Draw the vector for the plane only (no wind affecting it)
dw:1428791315300:dw
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
Now add in the wind blowing west
dw:1428791358556:dw
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
The resultant vector drawn below is where the plane will actually go
dw:1428791396717:dw
its speed is currently unknown. So x mph

to find x, you use the pythagorean theorem
a^2 + b^2 = c^2
350^2 + 25^2 = x^2
solve for x
OpenStudy (anonymous):
This is so complicated... sorry you did good...
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
what is 350^2 + 25^2 equal to?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
123,125 ?
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
good

so we know x^2 = 123125
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
what is the value of x itself?
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
do you know what I mean? or no?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
No sorry I have no clue
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
x^2 means x squared
what is the opposite of squaring?

Um cubing ???
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
no, square rooting is the opposite of squaring
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
example:
take the number 5 and square it to get 25
then take the square root of 25 to get back to 5
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Ugh I hate math
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
x^2 = 123125
take the square root of both sides to get x = ???

if you don't have a calculator, you can type
sqrt(123125)
into google and google will spit out the result as an approximate decimal result
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ok thank u that helps a lot better haha u shouldve just said that lol
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
what result did you get?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
350.891721190 and even more numbers
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
that rounds to 351

to find the direction of the plane, you need to find the angle \(\Large \theta\)
