Might be a dumb question: Hooke’s Law is F = -kx. Spring A and spring B have spring constants kA and kB, respectively. If kA = 3kB, what is the relationship of the forces, FA and FB, to each other, for the same displacement in each spring (x)? a) FA = FB b) 3FA = FB c) FA = 3FB d) FA = -3FB

the negative is throwing me off! so -3FB=-FA....... I am guessing C??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's correct. \[F_A=-k_Ax=-3k_Bx=3F_B\]

thanks
