Well, technically there is nothing in that question that can be applied to the given answers. We don't know what they are analyzing. Heck, we don't even know if they are working together, based on the question.

A better way to word it: Two scientists are working on the same project, but one works in USA and one works in Europe. The scientists are analyzing samples from leaves; one scientists always clips a sample from the base of the leaf, near the stem, and the other scientist always clips a sample from the tip of the leaf.
