You are training to run a marathon in six months. Which type of muscle fiber would be most beneficial for you to develop? Slow twitch fibers, because they can contract for long periods of time without fatiguing Fast twitch fibers, because they contract quickly and powerfully Fast twitch fibers, because they primarily use aerobic respiration Slow twitch fibers, because they contain more sarcoplasmic reticulum, allowing fast contractions i believe it c

I don't think the answer has anything to do with fast twitch fibers because while they generate short bursts of energy/strength, they fatigue a lot faster. that wouldn't be useful to someone who is training for a marathon. I think it's A, because (according to the website below) slow twitch fibers "are more efficient at using oxygen to generate more fuel (known as ATP) for continuous, extended muscle contractions over a long time. They fire more slowly than fast twitch fibers and can go for a long time before they fatigue." http://sportsmedicine.about.com/od/anatomyandphysiology/a/MuscleFiberType.htm
thank you again
no problem :p
