The length of the second side of a triangle is 24 cm shorter than twice the length of the first side. Using f for the first side and s for the second side, translate the sentence into an equation.

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

Let f = first side, s = second side. From the first line of your question it says: The length of the second side (s) is 24 cm shorter than TWICE the length of the first side (f). This means that the second side (s) = 2 times the first side (f) - 24 [ we subtract 24 because it says that the side s is 24 SHORTER so we need to do -24]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so would it be s=2f-24 for the equation

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

that's correct :)
