First of all, I believe that a red-light camera will make drivers stop running the light at the intersection of Main and Fifth.

(1) Each year, hundreds of drivers run red lights at the corner of Main Street and Fifth Avenue. Sometimes these cars go through the intersection with no problem. However, many times these drivers get into car accidents. These accidents cause thousands of dollars in damages to people’s cars. This is nothing compared to the personal injuries and loss of life caused by these accidents. The reason why these drivers run the red light at this intersection is because they believe they will not get a ticket. Therefore, the city should install a red-light camera to make people stop running the light, prevent accidents, and generate revenue for the city.
(2) If a red-light camera is set up, every car that runs the red light will receive a ticket. This will make drivers remember that they will get a ticket if they run the red light. People will be much more careful around this intersection.
(3) Furthermore, fewer wrecks will happen at that intersection. This intersection comes after a curve on one end and after a hill on the other end. As a result, people often cannot see the color of the light until it is too late. This causes them to run the light because they are going too fast to stop in time. If drivers get tickets, they will drive more slowly as they approach the light.
(4) Finally, the red-light camera will have the added benefit of generating revenue for the city. Each driver that runs the light will have to pay a fine, and many more drivers will be caught by a camera than by police officers. The money from all those fines can be put to good use for the city repairing roads, improving parks, or giving raises to the city’s police and fire departments.
(5) A red-light camera at that intersection will save lives, prevent injury and property damage, and provide financial assistance for the city. If the city does not install the camera, the intersection will remain dangerous, and people will continue to break the law. Installing that camera is a smart decision because it will result in a safer and happier city.
