Akbar is a great Indian restaurant in Pasadena, here in SoCal. So I'm ruling out the Ottoman and Safavid answers. (He was the third Mughal ruler of India so there is that to) So did he force everybody to convert to Islam or let folks believe what the wanted. The Mughal's descended from the Mongols. They really liked the Persian way of life so they hung around. They started the Timurid Dynasty in the early 1500s. The dynasty lasted about 300 years. Akbar extended the empire to pretty much dominate the entire Indian subcontinent. He followed the old Mongol way and was able to unite Hindus, Sikhs, Moslems and a whole bunch of different tribes. People kinda like getting to have their own religion. It seems to work as a way of making an empire last a long time.
