Help with a geometry question. The polygons below are similar, but not drawn to scale. Find the value of x. Show your work. (Will medal who solves it through with me)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I haven't done anything with polygons in a while since we are working on postulates of similar triangles

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

what do you think is the main property of shapes that are similar to one another?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

They are proportional?

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

yes - in other words, the ratio of corresponding sides are equal to one another

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

now use this fact to deduce what ratio's must be equal between these two polygons

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

here is an example to help your thinking process: |dw:1428964751242:dw|
