How many solutions exist for the given equation? 12x + 1 = 3(4x + 1) – 2

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

well I'd suggest you start by distributing on the right hand side of the equation...?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i did

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got 12x=12x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got 12x+1=12x+1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wouldnt that mean i got 2 soultions

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

so its the same equation.... you get 0 = 0

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

so there are an infinite number of values that x can take to satisfy the equation.

thanks
