I WILL GIVE MEDAL AND FAN The product of 9 and a number is 12 less than three times that number. What is the number?
Ok do you have any clue?
On what your answer is
no
Ok so first is says "The product of 9 and a number" It doesn't give us the other number so we are just going to label that as X
ok so nbr
not being rude
Now our product is 12 less then 3, so we do 3-12 with is -9 So we have to find out what X is, what number can get us to -9? We need to subtract something to get out answer, -9
*which is
idk i am not very good at this
Ok, so when you subtract a smaller number from a larger number, your probably going to get a negative number.
So use a calculator to try out these number: 9-10 9-16 and 9-18
Which one is going to be equal to -9?
9
MMM not correct, 9-9 Is 0 but we need to get to -9
Here we need 9 - x to get -9, count the numbers between 9 and -9
U can use a number line for best resluts ;)
*results
18 between the to numbers
So do 9-18
What do we get?
-9
Correct! That means X = 18 Now we have 9 - 18 = -9
Does that help any?
Was it correct? If so Medal? If its not to much to ask ^.^
Blehh its been 10 minutes, with no response, or medal and fan like you promised......
you should try to "translate" the words into "math" The product of 9 and a number product means *multiply* so 9 times a number give the unknown number a name: people use x (for unknown) so 9 times x in algebra, we just write it 9x
9x is 12 less than three times that number. the "is" translates to an equal sign 9x = 12 less than three times that number first look at the "three times that number" any idea how to translate this part ?
