I need help with some ideas on an essay. I need to state if I agree or disagree with this quote and why. Any ideas? "What difference does it make how much you have? What you do not have amounts to much more."—Seneca
So first of all, do you agree or disagree with the quote posted?
Disagree
Okay, so why do you disagree? Don't think about it for a long time, just type the first thing that comes to mind for me.
Well, I mean agree too because more is usually better but could turn bad. But if you only always stay with what you already have, you won't be gaining anything
What exactly do you need help with? You seem like you have the topic and the opinion down pat. do you just need help starting it? Or, what?
I'm not sure, I am just blank
Have you written anything yet?
Not a word
Okay, so, a good opening sentence would be something along the lines of, (Start with the quote) "What difference does it make how much you have? What you do not have amounts to much more."—Seneca (Then move on to the opening paragraph. Maybe start with a question?) When you see this quote, what first comes to mind? Do you agree or do you think that even the idea is blasphemous? I, for one, think (...) (Then you list your reasons. It is usually best to list st least four. If you have less, be sure to draw out the explanation so that you can create a filler for your paragraph.) Reason 1. (At least three sentences each.) Reason 2. Reason 3. Reason 4. This should help you to at least get your first and maybe second paragraph done. Hope I helped
Thank you!
Sure thing! @madiiharrell
Do you think I would be able to write more on agreeing or disagreeing?
Yes. But depending on how many paragraphs you are to write, you may have to draw out your ideas to be much longer than they could be. For instance, If I were to want to write about My liking of cats over dogs, (Just an example) The sentence, "I like cats more than dogs" Would obviously not suffice. But, writing like this, "For me personally, I would rather have a cat over a dog BECAUSE, They are a lot easier to take care of." (I could go on and on about how they take less attention and they don't need to be groomed and how they don't need as much exercise. But, again, this could go on to be two paragraphs instead of one sentence.) Its all about how much you are willing to draw out one subject matter.
You understand?
Yeah. I am just having trouble starting it and finding what to say.
@Skylarz
Okay, I have to go but I can give you one more thing. #1. Start with the quote #2 Ask a question of your reader, make THEM think and grasp their attention. #3 What do you think? Explain why YOU think what you do. #4 Draw it out. That should be enough to get you started.I hope it eases your writers block.
Okay, @madiiharrell ?
You got this.
Thank you!
Absolutely.
