The coordinates of A, B, C, and D are A (-6, 1), B (-9, 4), C (-1, 1), and D (-7, 6). How are AB and CD related?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A. They are parallel lines. B. They are intersecting lines but are not perpendicular. C. They are perpendicular lines. D. They are coincident lines.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I graphed them and to me it seemed like it was parallel.. But when I chose that answer, it wasn't correct. Might anyone else know what could it be? They seem parallel to me because when I graphed it, they were side by side and even.

I know it can't be perpendicular, they're not intersecting each other.

@UnkleRhaukus @iGreen @e.mccormick @thomaster @Compassionate @uri @bohotness @AnswerMyQuestions @Preetha Can any of you please help me through?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

B, C, & D, aren't so relevant to me.. It doesn't make sense.. To me it should be parallel but that was incorrect the last time I tried that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First, If it were B., then it would still be perpendicular. Anything that intersects is perpendicular and that doesn't match what I've got here on my graph. If it were C., well... It just can't be. B & C are the same thing. And it can't be D., because the lines are not equally sharing point together.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

By best answer would be A., it's just that the last time I submitted that answer I got it incorrect.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

They have to be parallel correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'll submit my answer once again if you believe I'm correct...

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

find the slope on each interval \[m=\frac{\text{rise}}{\text{run}}=\frac{\Delta y}{\Delta x}=\frac{y_2-y_1}{x_2-x_1}\]

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

if the slopes of AB and CD are the same , then the intervals must be parallel, (and maybe coincident) if the product of the slopes is -1, the intervals must be parallel if the slopes are neither: the same, nor multiply to -1, they must intersect somewhere

@UnkleRhaukus thank you :)
