Not at all. But that's not the only one that's wrong. Which ones sound right when you say them? If they do, eliminate them.

That one's kinda tricky. If you got rid of "had" then yes, you would say I began. But since they're doing this whole past-perfect thing, the correct word in the sentence would actually be "begun."
