The rectangular room is given by the trinomial x^2+4x-12. What are the possible dimensions of the rectangle? Use factoring. (1 point) (x-6) and (x-2) (x+6) and (x+2) (x-6) and (x+2) (x+6) and (x-2) illl give u a meadel!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

we're trying to factorise x^2 + 4x - 12. So first list the factors of 12 and we get 1 and 12 2 and 6 3 and 4 right? But if you look at your equation it says " -12". So we know that one of the numbers have to be a negative but we need to work out which ones to use. So first which two numbers when added/subtracted will give you 4?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@butterflydreamer so it will be (x+6)(x−2) right?

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

correct :) Good job!
