Which sentence is punctuated correctly? A. Ronald told us he would meet us at 8 p.m. B. "Ronald told us" he would meet us at 8 p.m. C. Ronald "told us he would meet us at 8 p.m." D. Ronald told us "he would meet us at 8 p.m."

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Which one do you think?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

d

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm thinking A. There would be no quotation marks because Ronald isn't speaking himself.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, Thank you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No problem

OpenStudy (uh60blackhawk):

i would actually say it's D because someone is directly quoting ronald.

OpenStudy (uh60blackhawk):

here is a link that might help you. http://www.grammarbook.com/punctuation/quotes.asp

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I would have to disagree because Ronald wouldn't say "he would meet us at 8" He would say "I will meet you at 8"

OpenStudy (uh60blackhawk):

here is what direct quotations mean "Direct quotations involve incorporating another person's exact words into your own writing."

OpenStudy (uh60blackhawk):

so that is why i choice D. someone is directly quoting what ronald said.

OpenStudy (liciagrl911):

Actually if they were to be directly quoting him it would say "I will meet you at 8 p.m." @UH60blackhawk sorry but @MissyLexi is right.

OpenStudy (uh60blackhawk):

oh ok

OpenStudy (uh60blackhawk):

my bad i was thinking of Indirect Quotations.
