An atom is a small unit of matter that is made of neutrons, protons, and electrons. Protons and Neutrons make up the nucleus. An electron orbits around the nucleus. There are four orbitals that the electron uses. Orbital s, orbital p, orbital d, and orbital 2p. Electrons also have shells. If using orbital s then the first shell can have up to two electrons, the second shell can have up to 8 electrons and the third shell can have up to 18 electrons.
