Unlike the Waffen-SS, the German Fallschirmjäger was not a political organization. It was a group of paratroopers. Most of its members had little or no interest in Hitler's agenda. These soldiers were men who wanted to defend their homes and families. They wanted to serve among some of the best that the country had to offer. They were strictly soldiers. They fought bravely for many of the same causes as the American soldier. In fact, the German paratrooper quickly earned the respect of the American GI.
