A bag containing 9 tiles numbered 1-9. p(4)=1/9. What type of probability is illustrated and why? My son knows the difference between experimental and theoretical but how do you find which is illustrated?

OpenStudy (misty1212):

HI!!

OpenStudy (misty1212):

this is theoretical, one out of the nine is a 4 so \(\frac{1}{9}\) experimental would be repeatedly taking one tile out of the bag and writing the ratio of the number of 4 you got to the number of times you did it

So the p(4) is asking the probability of drawing the number 4? So there did not already find out, there would be a table or something, they are guessing the probability of drawing it right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The theoretical probability of drawing a 4 out of the numbers 1-9 is 1/9 because there is only one out of nine tiles labeled 4. Another way to look at it is that there are 9 possibilities and only one of those nine will give you the answer you are looking for.
