What is the first quartile (Q1) of the data set? 48, 40, 59, 74, 51, 45, 62, 69 A. 74 B. 65.5 C. 46.5 D. 40

OpenStudy (amistre64):

how many data points are there?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

8

OpenStudy (amistre64):

then 1 quarter of the data will be 8/4 ...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but how do you do ti

OpenStudy (amistre64):

but since 8/4 is an integer, we are going to have to adjust it somewhat. we want the average of the 2nd and 3rd lowest datapoints

OpenStudy (amistre64):

that is how you do it .... 1/4 of the data is below the first quartile n datapoints have 1/4 of their data below the n/4th lowest position if n/4 is an integer, average out the n/4 and the next position if n/4 is not an integer, then pick the next highest integer.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

this website is for 13 and above ....

OpenStudy (amistre64):

your the one telling people your age lol

OpenStudy (amistre64):

8/4 = 2 right? so we want to averge the 2nd and 3rd smallest values

OpenStudy (amistre64):

not smallest value ... positional values the positions may have the same value so 'smallest' is not an accurate term to use i spose
