NCA English 9 The Lottery question (Will give medal)
In Shirley Jackson's "The Lottery" how does the author use Tessie's latre arrival to help create suspense? The reader does not know the nature of the event Tessie has arrived late for. The reader knows that the townspeople are aware of Tessie's late arrival. The reader understands that the townspeople are gathering for an event. The reader experiences the polite chatter between the townspeople.
According to human psychology humans would usually notice those who stands out of the crowd and coming late to an event is usually worth noting. Not only that but in the Lottery Tessie's late arrival also holds out the details of the events that Tessie entered. Therefore I believe that it is "The reader does not know the nature of the event Tessie has arrived late for."
