I agree with @chrissyC, there are very few mammals (by mass) out there in the ocean.Granted the mammals in the ocean are the largest, but their numbers aren't great enough to make them the greatest by mass. 

In all probability it is one of those smaller microbial animals such as plankton, that form one of the greatest total mass in marine life, after all they are plentiful enough to feed some of the largest beings on this earth and yet remain numerically, almost, unchanged at the end
