What effect did the Montgomery bus boycott have?

It brought forth the fact that African American's can take matters into their own hands if the government ignores them. It was also the first form of peaceful rioting in the US. Basically all that happened was that nobody who was black went on the busses for a year which really hurt the busses revenue because most whites would have their own cars.
