8 - 2b = 2/3(12b + 6) Distribute 2/3 into the parenthesis, do you know how?

OpenStudy (igreen):

-2/3*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think i solved this right, if i did, i got -2 for b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and no i dont know how to distribuate that :/

OpenStudy (igreen):

That's correct..

OpenStudy (igreen):

\(\sf 8 - 2b = -\dfrac{2}{3}(12b + 6)\) Okay, first we distribute -2/3..we do that by multiplying it to every term inside the parenthesis. \(\sf -\dfrac{2}{3} \times 12b = -8b\) \(\sf -\dfrac{2}{3} \times 6 = -4\) So we have: \(\sf 8 - 2b = -8b - 4\) Add 8b to both sides: \(\sf 8 + 6b = -4\) Subtract 8 to both sides: \(\sf 6b = -12\) Divide 6 to both sides: \(\sf b = -2\)
