Who knows how to solve with the "Perfect Ratio Method" ???
I don't know..do you have lessons?
Trying to look through my textbook butt I don't see any thing, let me look a little more..
Okay, if you find anything tell me what it says.
oh great.. this again. basically, its asking to find the irrational perfect square of a number.. and it makes no sense
. . .
What?
I know.....hate it!!!
trust me, its complicated. me and her tried, and was off by .01 and it counted it wrong
Lol
@amistre64
@phi @radar
this is the student guide this might help.....
@iGreen @tylermcmullen23
idk, but try 9.42
thats from my text book
That doesn't really help..it just tells you what you're going to do.
Just follow the steps!
oh i get it now
well lets solve it
Someone Help!!!!
ok. so first, we find the 2 numbers that it lays between. so those would be 9^2, or 81, and 10^2,or 100.
seems like a reasonable approach, not sure how you are spose to determine the error tho
ok...
tyler, you got a grasp on this? you seem to be off to a good start :)
next, find the difference between 81 and 89, and 81 and 100 and put it into a fraction... so 89-81=9 and 100-81=19. so put it to this fraction \[\frac{ 9 }{ 19 }\] and then divide \[9\div19\] to get the quotient, which is \[\approx.5\]
ok....what next?
since the distance from 9 to 10 is 1, multiply .5 by 1 to get .5 again. since its between 9^2 and 10^2, you add .5 to 9, which gives you 9.5.
if thats not right, god knows i tried
ok, thanks tyler!!!!!
no problem. let me know if its wrong or right
wait wait wait.. to the nearest 100th would be 9.47
Are you sure because the square root is 9.43
remember it was like -.01
well yea, , the method used it supposed to make it a little off, but im sure its 9.47
theres no indication in the test that would suggest how to determine the error. unless you are spose to do repeated tries with the 'found' solution as the new end point
Yeah, it is..that way you don't use a calculator :P
There is no indication,
9.5^2 and 10^2 90.25 and 100, difference of 9.75 90.25 and 89 is 1.25 ratio is: .1282 9.5 - .1282 = 9.3718 (9.3718)^2=87.83063524 so we seem to be getting closer
im sure youd still need a calculator with the intermediary calculations .. but then that just seems pointless :/
ok....
look at this,,,,,
my error was i assume an interval of 1 again
for that, find that 3^2=9 and 4^2=16. from 9 to 14, its 5. from 9 to 16, its 7. put 5/7 to approximate that it equals .71. so add .71 to 3. you get 3.71
9 14 16 5 to 7 3+5/7 yall got this
wow i figured it out. yay me lol
so the final answer is....
@tylermcmullen23
for which one??
1st
no, for the sqrt of 89, its 9.47
