Complete the equation of the linear function. y = x +

OpenStudy (anonymous):

help will give medal

OpenStudy (godlovesme):

do u see where the line hits the y-intercept?|dw:1429215902225:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-2 right ?

OpenStudy (godlovesme):

..no hold on

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i meant positive 2

OpenStudy (godlovesme):

the line only only hits the number 2 not the actual point lol look at the pic (:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the point hits at 1

OpenStudy (godlovesme):

yes :) good job! so do u see any perfect point like where the line perfectly meets?

OpenStudy (godlovesme):

i think a picture will better explain what im trying to say .. one sec

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (godlovesme):

^^^ are what i call perfect points

OpenStudy (godlovesme):

confused?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea

OpenStudy (godlovesme):

which part is confusing you?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why did u put all those dots

OpenStudy (godlovesme):

to show where the line have two perfect points hold up i'll show u what non-perfect point look like

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (godlovesme):

look at the purple dot, it's between number not exactly a specific number

OpenStudy (godlovesme):

do u see the red line i made to connect 2 and -3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea

OpenStudy (godlovesme):

ok so if i make a line that connects to the purple point it would lie between 1 and 2 on the x-axis and -1 and -2 on the y-axis

OpenStudy (godlovesme):

hmm did i confuse u again ? :/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (godlovesme):

yayy :D the nxt step is very easy :) now look at the two red point i picked i have to go 2 units up and 1 unit to the left to get to the other point see?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay

OpenStudy (godlovesme):

|dw:1429217532863:dw|

OpenStudy (godlovesme):

@tigergirl0000 do u see how i found the slope? (:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeaa

OpenStudy (godlovesme):

i'll just post the rest and tag me if u dont understand, when u get back (: slope= -2 y-intercept= 1 (where the line hits the y-axis) y=mx+b is the slope-intercept formula where m is slope and b is the y-intercept so, the equation will be y= -2x+1 :) hope that helped

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the answer is y = -2x + 1? @Godlovesme

OpenStudy (godlovesme):

yes :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thank you can you help me with one more?

OpenStudy (godlovesme):

sure no probs open a new post and tag me!
