Antoine Lavoisier: French chemist who discovered the properties of fire. He learned that fire depended on oxygen to burn. He also came to the important chemical discovery that matter cannot be created or destroyed, only changed chemically.
William Harvey: discovered the heart was the starting point of circulation in the body and that the same blood passes through the veins and the arteries as it passes through the body.
