Eight of the ten countries saw decreases in per capita emissions whereas two, Italy and Japan, had slight increases. Carbon dioxide is a main component of greenhouse gases which many scientists believe are contributing to the warming of the earth. Between 1973 and 1991, overall CO2 emissions worldwide increased. What factor explains the overall increase?
