This is really easy but I don't understand the |x - 3| very well, anyone care to explain to me what it means? Solve for x: -2|x - 3| = -12

Nnesha (nnesha):

1st) you need absolute bar by itself at left side so that's why move -2 to the right side

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok and then what?

Nnesha (nnesha):

what did you get after that ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-2x-3=-12?

Nnesha (nnesha):

nope why did you distribute absolute bar by -2 ?? you should divide -2 both side to cancel out -2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ohhh

OpenStudy (anonymous):

|x-3|=6 then?

Nnesha (nnesha):

yes right so to get rid of absolute bars we should get 2 parts negative and positive |dw:1429465576209:dw| now solve both pats for x
