Help Please with Question? Which sentence correctly describes a data set that follows a normal distribution with a standard deviation of 4 and a mean of 14? Out of the answers I had I choose 68% of the data points lie between 10 and 18. I'm not sure how you get 68%. I took the mean and subtracted the SD to get 10 and then the mean plus the SD to get 18. Is this correct?

@kropot72

OpenStudy (kropot72):

The empirical rule for a Normal Distribution states that approximately 68% of the data points lie within the range of plus/minus one standard deviation of the population mean.

OpenStudy (kitkat16):

I thought the rule was 95%. So my answer is correct?

OpenStudy (kitkat16):

68% of the data points lie between 10 and 18

OpenStudy (kropot72):

"68% of the data points lie between 10 and 18" is correct.

OpenStudy (kitkat16):

thank you

You're welcome :)
