Help! Is this correct? The mean of a normally distributed dataset is 12, and the standard deviation is 2. What % of the data points lies between 8 and 16? Is the answer 47.72 which would be 48%?

OpenStudy (kitkat16):

@HelpBlahBlahBlah can you help me please?

OpenStudy (helpblahblahblah):

sorry I am not a math person

OpenStudy (kitkat16):

ok thanks

OpenStudy (kitkat16):

@kropot72 can you check my answer please?

OpenStudy (kropot72):

The empirical rule for a Normal distribution states that approximately 95% of the data points lie within the range plus/minus two standard deviations of the population mean.

OpenStudy (kitkat16):

ahhh 95% within 2 standard deviations. thank you

OpenStudy (kropot72):

You're welcome :)
