The Parabola y=x^2+2x-8 how do you find the solution? on the Graphing calculator?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Hero

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

If you are going to use a graphing calculator. Graph it, look for the x intercepts (when y=0)

OpenStudy (amorfide):

are you wanting us to help you use a graphing calculator?

OpenStudy (amorfide):

because you don't need a calculator

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah is there another way to use without the calculator? @amorfide

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

Without a calculator, you just need to factor the quadratic. a quadratic is in the form of ax^2+bx+c you need to find two numbers that add up to the value of b, and multiply to the value of c

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

so your question is x^2+2x-8

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

find two numbers that add up to 2 and multiply to -8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah i don't understand how to find the solution

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

"find two numbers that add up to 2 and multiply to -8 "

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

shouldn't be hard lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thanks for the help :)

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

you got it ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i just have 1 question. on the calculator when looking for the solution, do you press 2nd trace 2?

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

for mine, you do 2nd graph

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah the chart of common factors. but to find the zero of the solution.

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

look for when y is 0. the x value if your solution

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok thanks
