During the struggle for Italian unification, how was the nationalism of Count Cavour different from the nationalism of Giuseppe Garibaldi? Garibaldi favored armed uprisings, while Cavour was opposed to military action. Cavour took more of a diplomatic approach; Garibaldi was a radical democrat. Cavour was a nationalist only for northern Italy; Garibaldi sought to unify all of Italy. Garibaldi saw nationalism as a short-term strategy, while Cavour saw it as a long-term goal.
