Its easy you just have to use the right hues to express the certain painting. There's many different types of hues that help express many things but there are two specific groups.

Warm colors;" Warm colors are those that tend to advance in space and can be overwhelming. Examples of warm colors include red and orange (think exciting fire and volcanoes)." So basically these types of colors are exciting, energetic, etc.

Cool colors; "The phrase used to describe any color that is calm or soothing in nature. Cool colors are not overpowering and tend to recede in space. Examples of cool colors include white, gray, blue and green (think calming blue waters). " These are usually use to express depression, relaxing, flowing, etc.
