First, I see they give you the verbs être and avoir. These two verbs along with others tend to have an irregular stem that separe them from how you would usually conjugate any verb into imparfait

Usually the steps that you would follow are
1) Present Nous form: Nous aimons
2) Drop the -ons "AIM"
3) Now that you have the stem, you'll add the following endings
Je Ais Nous ions
Tu Ais Vous iez
Il.Elle/on Ait Elles/ Ils aient

So, if i was to say that i was loving when....
I would write : J'aimais ma chat....

Helpful Note Irregular Ending Stems

Don't Forget adding the accent! to etre
