a) By the End of WWII Japan was fighting Russia, China, and they had fought their way into Vietnam. In Asia, the surrender of Japanese forces was complicated by the split between East and West as well as by the movement toward national self-determination in European colonial territories. By the end of WWII Japan had been fighting non-stop for 14 years, and some people refused to believe that the war was even over (one guy was found in the 70's who was still fighting WWII in the Phillipenes) His story is attached below if you want to mention it. Anyways, After WWII, China continues their own civil war and once the civil war was won, China became a communist country. This teriffied Americans. Next, you should mention the Korean War and the effect that this left on S.E. Asain countries. However, the biggest war you need to cover here for all of these points is Vietnam. I'll give you my notes on Veitnam next.

Happened during the cold war
Vietnam is a fresh colony up until WWII

In between 1947-1954 there is conflict not only between not only the French and Vietnam but also between north and South Vietnam
By 1954 the north and south are split
The north is run by Ho Chi Min

The south is propped up by the US
The north is communist propped up by the Soviet Union and China
By 1956 the French Leave

What Buddhist monks begin to do is set themselves on fire

When Kennedy dies Johnson takes on this conflict
The Vietnam War is really Johnson’s war

In 1968 a isolated company of American soldier went into a villiage My Lai and murdered and 347-504 civilians
They believed the villiage was harboring vietkong members
What also happened: There were also American soldiers that went in to stop them
A lot of veterans were incredibly angry during and after the war
Robert Kennedy - becomes a champion of anti-war cause
He was a unifying figure
June 4, 1968 – he is assassinated, shot in the head by a terrorist
He does this because he wants to raw attention to American policy as the state of Isreal

The result is a unified communist country

c) You should seriously argue that one of the larger causes of the Cold War was affected by the atomic bomb because America kept the bomb a secret, and them having a weapon capable of such mass destruction was terribly frightening to Russians and people of other countries. Image what that must have been like. These people had shot guns, hand-grenades, and maybe a few tanks left, they were poor. Then the US drops two bomb and completly levels two whole cities. Image the entire state of New York just gone. That's what happened. ANd what's worse was that they picked cities that weren't just military based cities but were also major cultural centers that had great meaning and importance to the Japanese people and the fact that America has the ability to completely level all of those towns as if they never even existed was shocking to the world. The policy of containment was to contain communism. That was the "reason" or rather excuse for participating in Vietnam. We wanted to keep Communism from spreading any further than from where it already was. I would review the Red Scare and Senator McCarthy for this part of the question as well. For the Cold war especially cover the Space Race (Star Wars) and the Arms Race
