OpenStudy (anonymous):

you know it?(:

OpenStudy (gnech):

Umm. it's not B cuz the Ottoman Turks destroyed it. I think it's either the capital was moved to Rome or they did a crusade against them. :/

OpenStudy (gnech):

I think it's D.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

When the conquest of asia minor by the seljuk Turks happened in the 11th century, this was the time when the first crusade was called upon by the pope.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So yes @gnech you are correct!

OpenStudy (gnech):

yep, it's D. Then, in the early 11th century, the Seljuk Turks conquered the Holy Land. The Seljuk Turks closed the pilgrimage routes and attacked Christian pilgrims. They also attacked Christian lands held by the Byzantines in Anatolia. In 1095, when Emperor Alexius I Comnenus appealed to Pope Urban II for help in defending the Byzantine Empire, the pope saw an opportunity. He called together the Council of Clermont in France. Eager to secure his own power over the church and to unite the quarrelsome lords of Europe, he called for a military expedition to retake the Holy Land from the Turks, whom he called infidels.
