I'll give you a medal and become a fan if you answer this. What was the difference between Darwin and Lamarck? A. They both understood how mutations occurred, but Lamarck was able to support it with evidence. B. They both tried to explain evolution, but Darwin was able to support it with evidence. C. They both understood how mutations occurred, but Darwin was able to support it with evidence. D. They both tried to explain evolution, but Lamarck was able to support it with evidence.
Lamarck believed species change by individuals passing on traits they acquired during their lifetimes, whereas Darwin's theory states that change (mutation) is random, and beneficial changes are propagated through natural selection.
Darwin's theory, however, states that evolution has nothing to do with the desires of an individual. A mutation happened that caused a giraffe's ancestors to grow longer necks, and because those ancestors had better access to food than ones with shorter necks, they reproduced more, outnumbering and eventually replacing the short-neck ones.
