One of the ironies of the Cold War was that the Soviet Union supported the U.S. in its attempts to limit the aggression of communist China Both India and Japan became democratic while accepting massive amounts of aid from the Soviet Union the U.S. supported the Taliban in its efforts to resist the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan Though they feared each other, the Soviet Union and communist China remained united during the Cold War because of their greater fear of the United States

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the U.S. supported the Taliban in its efforts to resist the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan this is actually true... we did do this...3. 1979-1985 We helped the Mujahideen; a group of rebels; they pushed off the soviet union they are made up of two groups Peshawar 7 and the Tehran 8. Carter begins to fund them to fend off the Soviets, we give them illions of dollar, we train and equip the troops, we give them anti air craft weapons and we train some to serve as our secret service. Part of the Peshawar 7 split of and became Al Qaeda.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The Berlin wall really didn't have a lot to do with the Cold war, It had more to do with Communism in Russia.

Before World War II, the U.S. mostly followed a policy of isolationism [to avoid economic and political ties with other nations]. But {for this question} the U.S. passed a policy of containment under Harry Truman's "Truman Doctrine" in 1947 in the era that became known as the "Cold War" in order to stop the spread of communism in [mostly] newly independent nations. The "Mashall Plan" in 1948 was also passed to provide foreign aid to 16 democratic European nations that struggled to recover from World War II. >Just a little info<
