I dont understand how to do this question!

OpenStudy (howard-wolowitz):

Can anyone explain or show me how to do this type of question? Thanks!

OpenStudy (akashdeepdeb):

Re-arrange the whole thing. You have to find the value of 'a' in terms of all other variables. \[f = \frac{kx}{(x^2 + a^2)}\] \[(x^2 + a^2) = \frac{kx}{f}\] \[a^2 = \frac{kx}{f} - x^2\] \[a = \pm \sqrt{\frac{kx}{f} - x^2}\] Understanding this? :)

OpenStudy (howard-wolowitz):

Somewhat

OpenStudy (howard-wolowitz):

so all you did was re-arrange it?

OpenStudy (akashdeepdeb):

Yes.

OpenStudy (howard-wolowitz):

what happened to x^2

OpenStudy (akashdeepdeb):

a + x = b a = b - x It was taken to the other side.

OpenStudy (akashdeepdeb):

Or you could say I subtracted x from both RHS and LHS.

OpenStudy (howard-wolowitz):

ohh well you see my lessons dont make it obvious

OpenStudy (howard-wolowitz):

ok well I"m gonna go with A.. thanks

OpenStudy (howard-wolowitz):

You showed me how to do it so thank-you

OpenStudy (akashdeepdeb):

You're welcome.
