OpenStudy (matt101):

The equation for the surface area of a cube is 6s^2, where s is the side length. If you multiply the side lengths by 5, you have 5s instead of 5 in the equation. Now let's compare the surface areas: \[{A_{long} \over A_{short}}={6(5s)^2 \over 6s^2}={25 (6s^2) \over 6s^2}=25\]\[A_{long}=25A_{short}\] So the surface area of the cube with the longer sides is 25 TIMES MORE than the surface area of the cube with the shorter side. Is your answer true or false?

OpenStudy (jessie13):

true

OpenStudy (matt101):

The answer is false - the surface area increased by a factor of 25, not 10.
