OpenStudy (howard-wolowitz):

Can someone check my answer I got B!

OpenStudy (howard-wolowitz):

ok im not right then

OpenStudy (howard-wolowitz):

-6 .... +1

OpenStudy (howard-wolowitz):

I think D

OpenStudy (howard-wolowitz):

@phi is it D or not?

OpenStudy (phi):

y= f(x-h) + k shifts h to the right, if you change the sign of h, it shifts left (notice this seems "backwards") +k shifts up -k shifts down this (to me) seems natural

OpenStudy (phi):

so down 6 means k= -6 1 to the right means h =1 y= f(x-1) -6

OpenStudy (howard-wolowitz):

ok basically what your seaming would be A ... I think but that would mean 6 is -6 and 1 is positive.. which it is

OpenStudy (phi):

or in your case \[ y = \sqrt{x-1} -6\] is 1 to the right, and 6 down

OpenStudy (howard-wolowitz):

but why isnt the 1 positive

OpenStudy (phi):

It is confusing. but this might help: y= x^2 is a parabola with its vertex at (0,0) |dw:1429645079087:dw|
