Using a directrix of y = -2 and a focus of (1, 6), what quadratic function is created?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

someone please help

OpenStudy (freckles):

I like to start with a drawing: |dw:1429645672563:dw| I called the Focus F

OpenStudy (freckles):

now the vertex should be midway between the F and the dirextrix

OpenStudy (freckles):

we know the vertex lays on the same vertical line the focus lays we just need to determine the y value the y value of the F is 6 the y value of the directrix is -2 (for any point but we are concerned mainly with what happens at x=1 since that is the vertical line that both the focus and the vertex lay) anyways what number is half way between 6 and -2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2
