OpenStudy (howard-wolowitz):

Can someone help me here, I cant figure how to solve this!

OpenStudy (howard-wolowitz):

@campbell_st

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

I'd say the easiest method is to substitute the values of x and check to see if you get the solution x = -1 \[\sqrt[4]{-1 + 81} - \sqrt{-1} = 2\] well that doesn't work so try the next... and repeat until you get the answer

OpenStudy (phi):

it helps to know that 81= 9*9 = 3*3*3*3= \(3^4\)

OpenStudy (howard-wolowitz):

ok im doing it one sec guys

OpenStudy (howard-wolowitz):

So by you saying 81 did you get that from x=-1 ... meaning that 81-1=80 making it the answer?

OpenStudy (phi):

no. x=-1 is not the answer. campbell already checked that. now try x=1

OpenStudy (howard-wolowitz):

ok

OpenStudy (howard-wolowitz):

ONE .. x=1 is CORRECT right?

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

that's correct...

OpenStudy (phi):

yes, but how did you get it?

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

sometimes it's easiest to use use the answers you are given to get the correct answer

OpenStudy (howard-wolowitz):

interesting
