Two algebra questions on conic sections?
Identify the conic. Write the equation. x^2+3y^2+4x-3=8 I already know this one is an ellipse I just don't understand how to re-write the equation.
Okay the second question is basically the same thing with the equation x^2-2y^2-4x-8y-26=0 and I know its a hyperbola.
What form u need to put these conic equations in? does the Q specify? For the second eqn, u can look at the alternatie forms at wolfram here https://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=x%5E2-2y%5E2-4x-8y-26%3D0
Just standard, I started to figure it out but i'm just confused.
u can express conic eqns in a number of forms n hence the alternate forms as shown on wolfram. did u check out the ones for ur second prob?
for the ellipse it's (x-h)^2/a^2 + (y-k)^2/b^2
Oh okay u can enter the eqn from 1st prob in Wolfram n it will give u the values for h, k, a and b there :)
Okay(:
let me know if u run into any trouble :)
Where does it tell me what h,k a and b are???
foci n major n minor axis
Ohh okay, thank you tons(:
welcome u help urself 4 the most part :)
