OpenStudy (howard-wolowitz):

Can someone check my answer? I got C

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

\(\textit{function transformations} \\ \quad \\ \begin{array}{llll} \begin{array}{llll} shrink\ or\\ expand\\ by\ {\color{purple}{ A}}\end{array} \qquad \begin{array}{llll} vertical\\ shift\\ by \ {\color{green}{ D}} \end{array} \begin{array}{llll}{\color{green}{ D}} > 0& Upwards\\ {\color{green}{ D}} < 0 & Downwards\end{array} \\ % template start \qquad \downarrow\qquad\qquad\quad\ \downarrow\\ y = {\color{purple}{ A}} \sqrt{ x + {\color{red}{ C}} } + {\color{green}{ D}}\\ %template end \qquad\qquad \quad \uparrow \\ \qquad\begin{array}{llll} horizontal\\ shift\\ by \ {\color{red}{ C}}\end{array} \begin{array}{llll}{\color{red}{ C}} > 0 & to\ the\ left\\ {\color{red}{ C}} < 0& to\ the\ right\end{array} \end{array}\) so..... should be simple enough

OpenStudy (howard-wolowitz):

ok well let me think

OpenStudy (howard-wolowitz):

then it would shift either way

OpenStudy (howard-wolowitz):

NVM i feel dumb

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

either way? well, is a transformation so, yes

OpenStudy (howard-wolowitz):

It would be D left

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

is "C" > 0 or < 0? that is, is C positive or negative?

OpenStudy (howard-wolowitz):

-15 = left = going negative

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

ahhh -15, that means C = -15 -15 is < 0 so C < 0, or C is negative, sooooo

OpenStudy (howard-wolowitz):

if your going on a graph riight, then it would still be going left cause you have x before y

OpenStudy (howard-wolowitz):

oh so it would be opposite

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

yes, for the "x" or horizontal shift is a bit counterintuitive, yes you'd expect negative to go to the left but goes the other way that's true only for the horizontal shift :)

OpenStudy (howard-wolowitz):

its weird though how'd it would go right.. I would of never of gotten A without your help!

OpenStudy (howard-wolowitz):

thank you for the help
