Ok so you know the first 3 gardens are the same size so you can assign one garden the variable x (the variable notes the fact that you do not know the size of the garden yet). Because there are three gardens of the same size you have 3x. The strawberry garden is larger then the other gardens so assign that garden variable y. Now you know that the strawberry garden is as large as the other 3 combined so you have y = 3x. You also know the total fencing utilized for all 4 gardens which is 113.04 ft. So you have y + 3x = 113.04 You now have two equations... : y + 3x = 113.04 & y = 3x sub in 3x for y in the first equation and solve for x yielding the size of one of the smaller gardens and then use that number in the y = 3x equation to solve for the strawbbery garden
