Hemophilia is an inheritable genetic disorder that prohibits the proper formation of blood clots. The recessive gene that causes hemophilia is located on the X-chromosome. Given this information, which of the following statements is true?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In order for a female offspring to be a hemophiliac, her father must be a hemophiliac. In order for a female offspring to be a hemophiliac, her mother must be a hemophiliac. In order for a male offspring to be a hemophiliac, his father must be a hemophiliac. In order for a male offspring to be a hemophiliac, his mother must be a hemophiliac.

@aaronq pls shower some time and help me

OpenStudy (aaronq):

i can't give you an answer, but i can tell you to write the possible genotypes in the options. for example, "In order for a female offspring to be a hemophiliac, her father must be a hemophiliac" Females have two X chromosomes, and thus the genotype she could have if her father gave her the hemophiliac allele, she'd have \(X^hX\) or \(X^hX^h\) depending on the allel the mom gave. To be a hemophiliac you need both alleles to be \(X^h\), thus this is not the answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait isn't this the answer then ? becuase u said the combination can be XhX or XhXh

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and XhXh is hemophilia , right @aaronq

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i know that it occurs to men mostly i believe

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so what do u think is the ans

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In order for a male offspring to be a hemophiliac, his mother must be a hemophiliac. i think thats the answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if i remember correctly the fathers offspring is not affected but a mothers offspring is. the son more affected if i remember correctly and the daughter half affected i think but mostly the male

OpenStudy (anonymous):

did it help??
