I will give a medal :)Pizza Paradise sells pizza by the slice. For the shop’s vegan pizza, 1 slice costs $7.50. The vegan pizza slice comes from a 14 in. pizza cut into 10 congruent pieces. Mr. Bernard is adding to his menu a slice of gluten-free pizza. He plans to sell the gluten-free pizza slice for the same cost per square inch as the vegan slice. But the gluten-free slice will be from a 12 in. pizza that is cut into 8 congruent pieces. What should Mr. Bernard charge for a slice of gluten-free pizza? Show and explain your work. Use 3.14 to approximate pi. Answer:

OpenStudy (phi):

any thoughts?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think you have to take the radias and multiply it be it self then pie than devide by 10 for the first one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm kind of bad at math

OpenStudy (phi):

math is just an excuse to practice thinking. but your plan sounds good (as far as it goes) we need to find the price per square inch. the first part to do that is find the area of one slice, and that is what your plan does. what do you get for the area of 1 slice of vegan?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

15.386?

OpenStudy (phi):

ok. 1 slice is 15.386 square inches we want $ per sq in any ideas ?

OpenStudy (phi):

I would use a ratio \[ \frac{7.50}{15.386} = \frac{x}{1 \ sq\ in} \]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

0.487456...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there is a lot of decimals

OpenStudy (phi):

at the end we can round to the nearest penny. meanwhile... what should we find next? what are we trying to solve?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how much the other pizza costs

OpenStudy (phi):

the other pizza costs the same per square inch.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 6x6=36 36 x pi = y y/8

OpenStudy (phi):

that will be the size in square inches. then multiply by the cost per sq in, to get the price of 1 slice

OpenStudy (anonymous):

6.92?

OpenStudy (phi):

I got something close but not 6.92

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is it

OpenStudy (phi):

what numbers did you use and what did you get? You have to show your work on this problem

OpenStudy (anonymous):

6x6=36 36xpi=113.04 113.04/8=14.13 14.13x0.49=6.92 I rounded everything if there were decimals over the hundredth place

OpenStudy (phi):

oh, ok. I would not round the price per square inch. If you don't, you get a slightly different price for the slice

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how slightly

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what 7.00

OpenStudy (phi):

do 36*3.14*0.4875/8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok but you know that it was not the full decimal right

OpenStudy (phi):

we will round to the nearest penny, so if we work with 2 extra decimals, that will be good enough.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 6.88

OpenStudy (phi):

in other words, 0.487456128 can be rounded to 0.4875 is good enough

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so 6.88 or 6.92

OpenStudy (phi):

I got 6.888 which rounds to 6.89 You could then "adjust" it to 6.90 to get a round number as long as you mention that is "close enough"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so 6.90 thanks
