OpenStudy (vickyisthesmartone123):

A prism has a surface area of 176 cm2. What is the surface area of a scaled image with a scale factor of 1 half?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

scale factor applies to the prism's side dimensions and the surface depends on the square of side dimensions. So a scale factor of one half i.e. 1/2 means the surface area will be....

HELP NOW I HAVE TO LEAVE IN BOUT 9 MIN HURRY!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

all you have to do is the square root of 1/2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

88 cm2

OpenStudy (vickyisthesmartone123):

did you get it form the internet?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the square root of 1/2 is 0.25 so that is your answer

OpenStudy (vickyisthesmartone123):

what is correct here 0.25 or 88cm????????

OpenStudy (anonymous):

88cm is the wrong answer i dont know how @SimplyE got that answer.

OpenStudy (vickyisthesmartone123):

1/2 is actually 0.5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh...... yeah sorry i calculated wrong :)

OpenStudy (vickyisthesmartone123):

@amistre64

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Im sorry i dont now this stufff

OpenStudy (anonymous):

know*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@amistre64 we need you wisdom

OpenStudy (amistre64):

if we have a square that is 2x2, its area is 4 scale it in half if we have a square that is 1x1, its area is 1 the area reduces by a division of 4, original area/4

OpenStudy (vickyisthesmartone123):

so what do we do

OpenStudy (amistre64):

divide ... the original area ... by 4

OpenStudy (vickyisthesmartone123):

I get 44cm

OpenStudy (amistre64):

that should do it then 176/4 = 44
